ESSOC College Scholarship Program

The Educational Scholarships for Students of Chiltiupan (ESSOC) Program connects talented college students from Santo Domingo parish with a sponsor from St. Dominic.  An annual sponsorship of $1,200 provides a deserving student with full tuition plus some additional funding for other educational expenses.  In exchange for receiving this scholarship, students send a monthly correspondence to their sponsors.  Many students consider their sponsors to be their Godparents.

As of 2020, 114 students are receiving full scholarships through the ESSOC program.  These scholars attend 16 different universities in San Salvador – a two-hour daily bus ride from Chiltiupan.  Students are studying accounting, agronomy, architecture, automotive technology, aviation technology, biology, business administration, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, communications, culinary arts, economics, electrical engineering, education, English, industrial engineering, international relations, journalism, law, logistics, marketing, mathematics, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, political science, psychology, social work, and theology.

If you would like to become a college sponsor, please contact ESSOC co-directors Jodie Bowers,, Dr. Brad Champagne,, or Brian Boswell,
