Christmas Stove - Mission Stoves

For Christmas 2011, St. Dominic raised over $40,000 with the “Keep the Fire Burning” campaign.  These funds were used to purchase over 1,000 eco-friendly, healthy, and efficient cooking stoves for the people of Chilitupan.  The stoves produce far less smoke improving the respiratory function and vision of those using them.  They require less firewood to function which helps the environment.  They are also safe to the touch.

In 2014, Mr. Jim Caffrey and his son James Jr. traveled to El Salvador.  James desired to support the stoves ministry as part of his high school senior capstone project.  James raised several thousand dollars for this effort.  James and his father were able to personally deliver the stoves that June.  The following summer, Jim, a beloved member of the St. Dominic Community, tragically passed away.  In memory of Mr. Jim Caffrey, numerous individuals continue to make donations to the Mission Stoves project.  In 2016, several members of the Caffrey family visited El Salvador and delivered dozens of stoves in Jim’s memory.  If you would like to make a donation, please contact Tim Sokal, tsokal@stdominicschool.net
