Walter Ramirez and his mother Carmen lived in a dilapidated home in Chiltiupan. The house with its mud floors and corrugated metal walls and roof was rusting apart in danger of sliding down the hill.
Carmen serves as the janitor at the Santo Domingo Clinic. She participates in each St. Dominic medical brigade helping our team setup in remote parts of the municipality. Walter, a student in our ESSOC college scholarship, has completed his course work for graduation in automotive technology. His graduation ceremony has been postponed due to the virus.
St. Dominic raised funds for a modest new home for Carmen and Walter. Our team of Aristides Salazar, Elias Salazar, and Raul Solis began construction on their new home. Carmen developed viral symptoms so our team is taking a two-week break to ensure their health and safety. Right now the old structure has been torn down and new cinderblocks have been installed. Concrete has been poured. We will post additional photos as construction resumes.
