Great Swim for an Even Greater Cause

Many of you know Steve Wargo from Sunday Mass and his involvement in the life of our parish as a Eucharistic Minister, participant in Centering Prayer, Warrensville Developmental Center, and other Project Serve activities. Steve says he loves the “spirituality, community, friendship, and service” that our parish offers and he embodies those values. He's been a parishioner for 35 years.

You may not know, however, that Steve is an endurance athlete. Last week, Steve swam the coastline of Cleveland from Edgewater Park all the way to Euclid Beach – a whopping 12 miles – completing this yeoman effort in 7 hours and 50 minutes. Even more impressive, Steve swam to raise funds for the City Mission, a non-profit that seeks to end the cycle of poverty. To make a donation in Steve's name, visit the City Mission's donation page.

Steve says centering prayer sustains him during the hours in the water. “This year I was a little tired at the end and my prayer was simply the repetition of the name, “Jesus.” Steve also comments, “I swim a little faster across the mouth of the Cuyahoga in case a freighter appears out of nowhere.” God Speed Steve and thank you for all you do for others!
