All About The Guild

The Ladies Guild of St. Dominic was founded in the earliest years of the parish, over 60 years ago, to promote the spiritual, social and intellectual lives of women.

Just as the church has evolved since the late 1940s, so has the organization that now goes by the simplified name of The Guild. Our mission today retains the social aspect, and our distinctly feminine camaraderie, but we partner our projects with service – service to the parish, service to local Catholic organizations, and service to other philanthropic ventures, as needed, especially those that pertain to the health and welfare of women.

Our signature events include The Little Folks Shop, a Christmas-time shopping opportunity for children, and a spring event – usually a lunch or dinner that’s open to all parishioners. Each spring we purchase items and put together 100 personal care packages.  They are taken to El Salvador and distributed to the patients seen by the doctors on the medical mission trip.  Other projects appear regularly, either by exploration or by request and we pool our resources and energy to get the job done – and we have fun doing it.

We are blessed to be part of a thriving St. Dominic community. We remain firmly rooted in the past with a rich history behind us, and retain our commitment to serving the needs of the parish now and in the future. We invite women of all ages to join us – to help us, to inspire us, to teach us, and shape us – but mostly to be a part of us, The Guild.

Cardiac Concerns in Cancer Survivors
Thursday, February 9th in the large meeting room

Are you at risk for developing heart disease?  What can you do now to prevent heart disease? Find out as the Guild presents “Cardiac Concerns in Cancer Survivors” with parishioner Dr. Barbara Williams, Director of Women’s Cardiovascular Center at Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute. Join us Thursday, February 9th at 7pm in the large meeting room.  Heart-healthy refreshments will be served.  For more info, contact Gerri Gleason, Guild, 216-291-0909.

Social Gatherings:

• Guild on the Go – Pearl of the Orient
  In January we enjoyed a lavish Chinese New Year Banquet at Pearl of the Orient in Shaker.  Join us next year for this popular annual event!
• Save the date!  Spring Mix & Mingle
  Join us Friday, April 20th at the Cleveland Skating Club for cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, dessert, a Chinese raffle, silent auction and the incredible sounds of Jim Carr.   Last year we had loads of fun… why not join us this year?

• Parish Blood Drive
  Sunday, February 12
  Help us provide baked goods for our parish Blood Drive!
• Fish Fry Fridays
  Fridays, February 24, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
  Sign up for a two-hour shift to help with prep work 1-3 p.m. on any one of the dates.
• Mission Packets for El Salvador
  Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
  Join us as we put together 100 bags of personal care item to send to El Salvador with the medical team in April.  This only takes about an hour and a half!

Monthly Guild Meetings are the first Thursday, at 7:30 pm in the small meeting room.  However, February we will forgo the usual date and meet for Dr. Williams talk.  Please feel free to join us for our monthly meetings.
